Case Studies
Case Study 1: NASA
After extensive benchmarking NASA has chosen Humanetics finite element dummy models for predicting potential occupant injury. The benchmark consisted of simulating frontal, lateral, vertical and rear impact conditions of the next generation Orion spacecraft. The model results were compared with actual test results obtained from sled tests executed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. It was found that the Humanetics models had the best overall performance. Not only occupant kinematics, accelerations and loads in the dummy were compared but also reaction loads in the seat fixture and restraint harness.
Case Study 2: Frontal Impact
The Hybrid III 50th is the most commonly used dummy for frontal impact. The model is extensively validated to material, component, sub-assembly and full dummy tests. Attached document shows a typical full system application example by an OEM.
